What Is Community?


“ Distinctive populace of the same region constitute a community”


A community can be characterized by:

1. The type and number of species present.

2. Dynamic i.e. how communities change over time.

3. There are three main types of species that serve as the basis for community, these are :

(I). Foundation species ( having greatest influence).

(II). Cornerstone species ( is one whose nearness is key to keeping up biodiversity).

(III). Invasive species (these are foreign species whose introduction can cause harm).


A desert community consists of lizards, snakes, birds, mice and rabbits etc.
